Curriculum Intent Statement

 

At Crestwood we offer a fully inclusive curriculum which is balanced and broadly based. Teachers set high expectations for every student and plan work that stretch and challenges all learners regardless of their prior attainment or their different backgrounds. Crestwood teachers use appropriate assessments and set targets which are ambitious for our learners. These in turn encourage aspiration and support their success both in school and in later life.

 

The national curriculum forms one part of the school curriculum and we ensure that Crestwood students enjoy a full range of subjects as part of their curriculum offer. This includes having a religious education at key stage 3 and sex and relationship education at key stages 3 -5. We ensure our students have extensive provision for personal, social, health and economic education (PSHE), which includes a range of subjects or topics that are applicable to our learners and our setting.

Our curriculum extends beyond the classroom and encompasses and promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of students whilst in school and when in society.

 

We believe our curriculum prepares students at the school for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life. The school curriculum comprises all learning and embraces and encourages wider experiences for our students.

We offer alternative provision for some students at key stage 4, whilst others follow a more academic route comprising of a balance of core subjects (maths, English and science), Ebacc subjects (MFL, computing, history and geography) and more practical routes through performing arts, art and design, design technology, sport and vocational courses such as Health and Social care, Business, Travel and Imedia.

 

We value and promote opportunities both at Crestwood and through collaborations within our Trust. These can be academic, sporting, careers or performing arts driven and are underpinned by a set of core values that has ‘anything is possible’ at the heart of all that we do.
